There is an interesting, and frankly creepy, story of Mitt Romney’s infiltration and conversion of his wife’s family in this Gawker article: Did Mitt Romney Convert His Dead Atheist Father-in-Law to Mormonism?

The article portray’s Edward Davies as a “committed atheist”. A man who refused to have his children raised religiously. We at Debaptized.com enjoy stories of parents standing up for the minds of their children and not wishing to have them indoctrinated before they can ever decide for themselves.

It’s sad that all the Davies children eventually converted to Mormanism. According to the article, Morman Missionaries seem to work very hard at getting to these people and bringing them into their fantasy world. Yet, the father remained an atheist to the end, likely saddened and disappointed in his offspring.

Now, the Mormans are known for posthumously baptizing family members into the faith, so it’s possible (even likely) that Edward Davies has already had this indignity placed upon him.

So, to honor a fellow freethinker, The Debaptist Church officially Debaptizes Edward Davies.

Thanks to a single link in an article concerning debaptism’s rise is Europe we have had a flood of new debaptism requests. I was to welcome all those who are visiting us via that article and congratulate them on taking their (possibly) first step towards the freedom of Debaptism.

Debaptism is NOT a decision to take lightly, but must still be taken. Freeing ones life from the immoral bindings that is the supplication and oppression that is baptism can be a taunting task, but we at Debaptized.com hope to help and guide your decision.

On an all to regular basis, we are Debaptized.com are proud and saddened that we have to perform an infant debaptism. All too often a parent will be compelled by those around them to allow a baptism. A parent may console themselves about the not-so-subtle emotional coercion used against them by rationalizing that the ritual is empty and without real meaning. This is a good coping mechanism and we are happy a parent can feel this way, but unfortunately it may not be enough.

As a ritual, baptism often marks a person as a part of an “IN” group. This group membership, far form being loving, often comes with some very real expectations, mostly of maintaining the membership. In religion, this is in the form of professing a belief. While the act of putting water on a child’s head and mumbling a few words can seem harmless, it creates an atmosphere of that expectation, one that the child quickly assumes is proper. This is part of a strategy by religion of indoctrinating and inculcating the young, uncritical mind and of giving any adult the permission to assume the role of executing this strategy.

Debaptism give you back some of the power to remove that permission. It allows you the opportunity to tell another adult that in fact the child is NOT part of their in-group. It allows you to tell the child that they have the right to question what they are being told.

It asks people to care for your child, not his soul.

Apostasy has a powerful negative connotation among believers. In ancient times it was a charge that brought with it a fear for ones life. It meant dishonor, exile and death.

I am an apostate. I have committed apostasy.

In rejected the faith I once held I have not simply turned my back on childish ideas and ways but I have embraced a new world and a new future. I have now seen a bright new beginning where once I thought only despair could exist.

Everyone should see it.

The Debaptist Church is now the world’s first Apostatic Church. Our mission is to spread apostasy to as many people as we can. We wish to Apostatylize (to coin a term) to the world the importance, power and morality of truth and to disabuse the world of it’s unjustified beliefs. We want people to seek real truth. The kind that seems only to be won with hard work and honest inquiry.

We are not the first to have come up with this idea. The Church of Reality has been promoting realism, science and honest inquiry as a church for a few years now. While we agree with many of their ideas and feel a common cause with them, as a church we wish to focus on helping people to rid themselves of bad beliefs as a key to helping them accept true ones.

Our other focus is on Debaptism. We feel strongly that we provide people who are fully committed to leaving their old failed ideas behind them to mark the occasion with a positive, life affirming ceremony to mark their journey into that bright new beginning.
